Through the Portal From Attlan to Terras

Our world is a place we call Atta. It was created by a deity called Norokim a very long time ago. Atta is a very large world full of life, culture, and people. We have three continents, all with their own unique features and lands. Quality of life varies from place-to-place, as do the cultures and  histories of each locale. Religion is sparse, and rarely observed. Despite the stories of Norokim and creation, they are a silent god. It has been millennia since Norokim raised a prophet or performed miracles.

About three years ago, our land was shaken. Atta was attacked by another god, and we saw signs of Norokim for the first time in many generations. Our world was rocked; ravaged by storms, meteors, earthquakes, catastrophe, and famine. We do not know the name or identity of this encroaching deity and so we called it Foe. As Foe and Norokim fought, Atta was filled with panic and chaos. People of all walks scrambled to Norokim’s temple for the first time in centuries, desperate for relief.

In the moments following their battle, Atta would be changed forever. Norokim defeated Foe at the cost of their own existence. The ramifications and consequences of this event are not implicitly known, but life on Atta has been disastrous. It would seem as though Atta is entirely unstable. At the death of Norokim and Foe, three portals opened; one on each continent at the sites of Norokim’s ancient temples.

Speculation surrounded the appearance of the gates, but the people of Atta were ultimately left with little choice. Some developed a near instantaneous renewal of faith and pledged themselves to the memory of Norokim. Others denounced deities, filled with resentment and spite. Investigating the gate was something that even magical experts had very little time to do conclusively or thoroughly. As people began risking their passages through the gates, it became a stampede. The mad dash to the gates led to a mass migration from Atta, bringing in people from every corner of the world that could survive the disastrous landscape.

Attlan was the first land beyond the gates, our new Atta. We knew very little of this world as we went through the portal gates, but there seem to be some fundamental similarities. Magic worked in the same fashion as it had on Atta so we lost nothing there. While the lands were similar in both flora and fauna there were new things to discover. We brought our cultures, our families, our beliefs, and hope and we faced terrors we couldn’t explain.

What those who went through the first gates to Attlan didn’t know is that eight months after the flood of migrants had made their way through from Atta to Attlan the gate’s destination magically shifted to a new planet. This planet was called Terras, named by those first through to the new world. Expecting to see their family and friends who had gone through the gates before them they were sadly disappointed to see they were not there.

What they did find was another race of strangers. Humans who said they had come from a planet called Viridis. They claimed that their own god, Amare, had died and they wept for his death. Having come through similar gates upon their own planet, also, expecting to meet those who had come before them. Two groups of people from two worlds set forth, working together to survive.
